Particular drawing II

Back to portfolio

This work is the continuation of the Particular drawing project in which the design of a typeface served as the basis for the production of a purely graphic representation.

This time the font is used for an installation as part of the Scriptorium Interplay exhibition which took place at the Emmaus Monastery in Prague from June 6 to 11, 2023.

This installation consist of adhesive tape representing the negative parts of the typography stuck on the windows of the large glassing room in order to create a sentence.

The objective of this installation is twofold. Firstly, the use of a glazed panel as a support for the typography makes it possible to deconstruct the textual message in a stronger way than if it had been on a solid and opaque support because the viewer's attention is stimulated by what happens behind the glass. Secondly, this art installation is designed to be contextual (it can only work when it is exposed to natural light) and mobile: the drop shadow of the written message would be projected in an abstract way on the ground by moving when the race of the sun had to pass through the glazing. Moreover a part of the lettering is covered by a curtain revealing the text which moves and deforms under the undulations of the curtain due to the air flow infiltrating through an open window.
